USS Alamo LSD 33 Reunion

The USS Alamo Reunion will be held on October 22nd, through October 25th at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio. The address is 204 Alamo Plaza

San Antonio, TX 78205. Phone: 210-223-4361 Reservations: (800) 345-9285. The group rate is: $169 (plus taxes)  and the group rate code is: USS Alamo LSD 30 Reunion.  

I have you marked as “maybe attending”. Here is what I have so far for an agenda.

We will have a Hospitality Room on the second floor, and you are allowed to bring in beverages and food, while we have our gatherings. Valet parking is available for a charge, I believe $30 per day with in and out privileges. There is also overnight parking at the River Center Mall, but you would have to check the price. 

I am currently finalizing the details and the “Plan Of the Day” while we are there, and dates and times that I list are tentative. I will post the POD for each day on the Hospitality Room Door. Please check that for all of the details.

One of the options I am considering is a catered dinner or a group dinner at a restaurant. The catered dinner would be a set price for everyone, approximately $70 per person, or I can arrange a restaurant where we could order off of the menu, and each party would be responsible for their own bill. The choices of restaurants are varied along the Riverwalk, so I am sure that we can find a restaurant that suits nearly everyone. We will have ONE group dinner of some sort. So if the majority vote for catered, we will have catered. If the majority vote for a restaurant, we will have a restaurant.

Also, every hotel charges for their meeting rooms. Many are in the $700 - $1,000 per day range and you cannot bring in your own food or beverages. We are able to use the Menger’s Hospitality Suite and bring in our own food and beverage, the cost is $200 a day plus tax. This will be approximately $10 per day per Shipmate. Spouses and significant others are not charged. There is a 50 person capacity in the meeting room, so an accurate count is necessary. 

On Saturday night, we will have a USS Alamo Association Meeting to discuss the Association business as well as decide where to hold the next Reunion, and select the Reunion host. If you are interested in hosting the next reunion in 2028, please be prepared to make a pitch as to your choice of place, whether it is your hometown, or another location. While non Association Members may attend, voting in the decisions is reserved for the Association Member (Annual, Paid Lifetime, and Former Lifetime) of which we currently have 31 members. If anyone is interested in joining the Association while at the Reunion, we will accept your application on Thursday or Friday.
